Yesterday was the biggest day on the Australian racing calendar, the Melbourne Cup. I have never been to the Cup but it's definitely something I have wanted to do since, well, as long as I can remember. I always promise that I'll go but never get online in time to buy tickets and this year was no exception.

This year, the racing expert of the household took half a day off work to watch the race at home with me. As soon as we woke up, we ran through the form guide so James could place our bets before he got to work.

Elsa had a glance but decided it was too difficult to pick a winner. Sensible.

At around lunch time, we picked up some sushi and settled down to watch the race day unfold on TV...

None of my picks won or placed, but James ended up getting back about $100.00, which meant we probably broke even at the end of the day!

We've still got more big race days to watch so our minds are well and truly consumed with all things horse racing. James bought this book on the weekend and I'm going to dive into it as soon as he's done reading it:

Of course, what I'm really looking forward to is Sydney's Autumn Racing Carnival to begin next year. I've got far too many dresses hanging in the wardrobe I wanted to wear if I could have gotten my hot little hands on Melbourne Spring Carnival tickets this year...

How did you celebrate the Spring Racing Carnival this year? Pick any winners?
